Debre Libanos is an important Ethiopian Orthodox Christian monastery located in the central highlands of Ethiopia, near the city of Ambo. It is one of the most revered monastic sites in Ethiopia, known for its rich religious history and spiritual significance. The monastery was founded in the 13th century by Saint Abbo, a disciple of Saint Tekle Haymanot. Debre Libanos is famous for its beautiful setting amidst the cliffs of the Jema River Gorge, as well as its ancient church, which is dedicated to the Virgin Mary.
